Can an attorney reduce DMV fees because my insurance was canceled?
I get calls from people with fees from the DMV because their insurance is canceled and they ask if a traffic ticket attorney can help. These DMV fees can be expensive and add up if you’re not aware of the notice. Add on the cost of reinstating your insurance and your cost in fees can be high.
So can an attorney help you with your DMV fees because your insurance was canceled? The short answer is no.
Your best option is to talk with the DMV and negotiate a payment plan with the state because the fees can be quite high. Sometimes they are willing to set this up to help you handle the costs of the fees over time. This does require you to do the work yourself and you cannot hire a traffic ticket attorney to do this work for you.

There is a possibility that the charges are made in error where your insurance was not canceled. If this is the case and you are getting the run around from the DMV, a traffic ticket attorney can help you navigate the issue. I understand you shouldn’t need one because it was the DMV’s error in the first place. But if things get difficult, I’m here to help you take the steps. Again, a traffic attorney cannot reduce the fines, but happy to help you navigate the system with you.
