I have been told that I have an attachment for a traffic ticket. What exactly does that mean?
Hi, my name is Heather Ford, and I am a New Orleans traffic attorney also known as the traffic ticket lady.
I was talking to a client the other day, and I mentioned how sometimes, the court will issue an attachment. And the client asked, “What exactly is an attachment?”
An attachment is essentially a bench warrant. Like a bench warrant, an attachment is issued by traffic court usually due to failure to attend a court date. Also, failure to fulfill a payment plan is another very common reason for an attachment to be issued. Sometimes, you may also see an attachment may be ordered if you didn’t complete community service or some other requirements such as probation.

Overall, an attachment is just a way to force you to come back to court to resolve the pending issue.
So, the idea is, if you get pulled over by a police officer, due to the attachment, the officer will arrest you and bring you back to court so that you can fulfill your obligations to the court.
How do you get the attachment recalled? To be honest, the procedure varies significantly by jurisdiction. Between New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, and Kenner: every court handles attachments differently. If you have any questions about your specific case, I’d be happy to give you my thoughts. You can always shoot me a text or you can schedule a free strategy session at trafficticketsnola.com.
