What’s the process to fight a traffic ticket in Jefferson Parish?

Hi, my name is Heather Ford and I am a traffic attorney in the city of New Orleans- also known as the Traffic Ticket Lady. Let’s talk about how to fight a traffic ticket in Jefferson Parish.

Before I get started, if you ever have any questions about a suspended license, a violation for driving with a suspended license, a traffic ticket, or anything of that nature, you can always shoot me a text or call me at 504-233-8529. You can also schedule a free strategy session at  traffictickettalks.com.

Jefferson Parish, much like New Orleans, is a two-appearance system. You make an initial appearance to plead not guilty, and then at a second court date you have the opportunity to talk to the assistant district attorney about the ticket

There are two courts in Jefferson Parish. There is First Parish, Second Parish, and Jefferson Parish is also Westwego. There’s also Kenner. But we’re really talking about your parish courts. There’s First Parish in Metairie and there’s Second Parish in Gretna. Both courts are a two-appearance system if you want to fight the ticket.

When the ticket is entered into the system, you can call the court and they are able to find the ticket. You give them a ticket number or your name, your date of birth, and they’ll look it up. At that point you can go into court and set a court date to come back to talk to the assistant district attorney. If you decide you want to completely fight the ticket and go to trial, that would happen at the second court date as well. You can come on the court date listed on the ticket, but I would not advise it because it’s a much longer wait in person. If you are able to go into the clerk’s office before that date printed, do it.

So that’s the process. If you want to fight a traffic ticket in Jefferson Parish, First Parish or Second Parish, it’s a two-appearance system. You can come in anytime when the courts are open once your ticket has been put in their system. And like I said, call the court before you go. They’re really good about answering the phone there. Give them your ticket number, your name, and date of birth. See if they can find that ticket. If they can find it, come in to court and set the date at the second court. Try to get that ticket reduced to a non-moving violation at the very least, and if you really wanna fight it and go to trial, that will be your opportunity to do so as well.

Let New Orlean’s 5 star rated attorney help you with your traffic ticket. Text the Traffic Ticket Lady for a free consultation on your ticket and she will happily help you sort out your options and work to get that ticket reduced and keep your record clean.

If you ever have any questions about DMV fees, traffic tickets, or a suspended license, I’d be happy to speak with you. You can always shoot me a quick text at 504-233-8529 or visit my website trafficticketlady.com.

“I will definitely use her again if need be!”

I was thrilled when Heather was able to get my ticket reduced to a non-moving violation and the judge waived fees. I never thought that was possible. I was certain I'd have to pay something. She's great...
